Faculty of Agriculture

General Information

Within our faculty, educational activities are carried out at the departmental level under the current undergraduate program. As approved by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), starting from the 2013–2014 academic year, the Departments of Agricultural Machinery and Agricultural Structures and Irrigation have been merged at the undergraduate level into a single department under the name of Biosystems Engineering, and student admissions have continued under this new structure.
The academic units within our faculty include the Departments of Horticulture, Plant Protection, Biosystems Engineering, Aquaculture, Dairy Technology, Landscape Architecture, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Biotechnology, Field Crops, Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, and Animal Science. In the 2024–2025 academic year, a total of 1,869 students are continuing their education in our faculty.
As of 2025, our faculty employs 117 academic staff, 34 administrative staff, and 16 personnel in worker positions.

Our faculty was established on June 27, 1987, as part of Dokuz Eylül University; however, it did not commence educational activities at that time. It was later affiliated with Adnan Menderes University through Law No. 3837, enacted on July 3, 1992.
With the appointment of the Founding Dean Prof. Dr. Cezmi Öncüer on May 14, 1993, educational activities began in the 1993–1994 academic year in the departments of Horticulture, Plant Protection, Agricultural Machinery, Field Crops, and Animal Science, using the classrooms and laboratories of Ege University Faculty of Agriculture.
Following the allocation of the Koçarlı Cotton Production Station, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture, to our University on March 3, 1994, as the Research, Application, and Production Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, education continued in Aydın on October 3, 1994, during the 1994–1995 academic year, in prefabricated temporary classrooms and laboratories constructed on the site.
Currently, educational and research activities are being carried out in the departments of Horticulture, Plant Protection, Biosystems Engineering, Aquaculture, Dairy Technology, Landscape Architecture, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Biotechnology, Field Crops, Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, and Animal Science.

To train Agricultural Engineers and Landscape Architecture who are equipped with contemporary education and training activities in Agricultural Sciences and scientific research techniques, as well as socially and culturally competent, and to offer innovative approaches, environmentally friendly sustainable to problems encountered in agricultural production through original national and international scientific research conducted in the scientific fields available in our unit.

To train Agricultural Engineers and Landscape Architects who can develop solutions to the agricultural problems of our region and country, think analytically, take responsibility, and possess practical skills. Additionally, our faculty aims to develop projects addressing agricultural problems or approaches considered important at the local and/or national level, to identify the agricultural production and agriculture-based industrial potential of our region, and to formulate agricultural policies and strategies to promote their development.

Our faculty has a total indoor area of 50,000 square meters. It consists of 13 blocks, including 41 classrooms, 2 computer laboratories, 53 research laboratories, a library with a capacity of 150 people, 1 conference hall, 2 meeting rooms, 2 amphitheaters, a student cafeteria with a capacity of 500 people, a staff cafeteria with a capacity of 150 people, a cafeteria with a capacity of 250 people, 1 football field, and 1 archive room.
Additionally, as of 2025, there is a 1,000 m² greenhouse and 1,583 decares of irrigable land for research, practice, and production to support applied agricultural education. There are 2 workshops for equipment used in crop production and 5 storage warehouses for agricultural products. For animal production, there are 4 breeding units, 1 roughage storage, and 1 concentrated feed unit with a capacity of 1 ton.
As of 2025, animal production is carried out in various areas, including the Dairy Cattle Unit, Sheep Farm, Goat Farm, and Layer Chicken Unit.

Our faculty has an infrastructure that includes 6 tractors, 1 construction machine (backhoe), and 50 various agricultural tools and equipment used in crop production. In animal production, the Dairy Cattle Unit is equipped with a fully automatic milking system with a capacity of 12 animals, and the goat unit has a fully automatic milking system with a capacity of 24 animals, along with one feed mixer with a capacity of 10 m³.
